This lettering piece was created with a practical challenge in my mind: How to flourish double letters, especially those with ascenders and descenders? Should they look similar to create a rhythm or should they look different from each other?
The occasion was a live session on Instagram, what we did together with Robert Bree from The Flourish Club on the 19th November, 2023. We both made our own version of this word.
“Tillykke” means “Congratulations” in Danish. I decided to break the word up into three lines and create a vertical piece. It has helped to solve the problem of the double letters.
Here is the whole process: first, a pencil sketch which I developed it further. The next step was vectoring the sketch in Adobe Illustrator. Finally, I added colours and effects. It is ready to be printed and used as a greeting card.
